Car bomb detonates in Makhachkala

DAGESTAN, November 4, Caucasus Times – A bomb deployed in Oka car was set off at 5.50 p. m. in Makhachkala. The car was parked by the roadside nearby busy streets of Yaragsky and Bogatiryev, Caucasus Times correspondent reports citing the Interior Ministry of Dagestan.

The bomb was about 23 lb TNT equivalent but luckily the blast resulted in only several windows shattered in nearby buildings and no casualties were reported at the site, the Interior Ministry press service said. Amuchy Amunov, the head of regional Russian Pension Fund was passing by in his Mersedes car at the moment the bomb went off. Neither the official nor his guards suffered in the accident, police said.

The Oka car was reportedly sold by a taxi firm to an unidentified person back in 2002, according to Kirovsky district police department.

Regional Federal Security Service instituted a terrorism case.
