Makhachkala municipal authorities call to account law enforcement agencies
DAGESTAN, February 13, Caucasus Times – Mayor of Makhachkala Said Amirov speaking Friday at the meeting of the municipal government officials summoned to work out tighten security measures to crack down on terrorism and crimes blamed the critical situation in the city on the law enforcement of the republic.
The criminal situation in the republic had reached its critical point, the mayor said. Over the last year there had been 22 attempts on the top officials’ lives and attacks on the law enforcement officers, which resulted in 24 deaths and dozens injuries. The assassination of deputy Interior minister Maj. Gen. Mohamed Omarov in broad daylight in the center of Makhachkala February 2, this year has become the last drop, which overflowed a cup of patience of local authorities, Mayor Amirov was quoted as saying.
The mayor and the government reprimanded police officials and districts administrators for mishandling the anti-criminal situation and summoned the law enforcement agencies to crack down on terrorism and crimes. The municipal and republic’s authorities have warned to dismiss the police and security officials if they will not succeed in fighting the crimes and terrorists.
